Memory Match: Take a Known Pair Before Exploring New Cards

In a stable board with two copies of each picture, two remembered matching positions are a complete pair. Use that information before spending another turn on two unknown cards.

Separate known singles from known pairs

Suppose you saw a star at the upper left and later uncovered another near the bottom. If neither moved, their locations are now a known pair. After collecting them, remove that pair from your mental list. Keep unmatched pictures tied to clear positions, such as row two, column three, rather than a vague impression of the area.

Try the steps

  1. Check for a remembered pair at the start of the turn.
  2. If exploring, connect each new picture to a specific position.
  3. Update your memory after a match, shuffle or board change.

Does this apply when cards move between turns?

Only after updating the positions. Some variants shuffle cards, use more than two copies or score speed differently. Read those rules before assuming that a remembered location still contains the same picture.
