A board can have many empty squares and still be difficult to use. The shape of the remaining space matters as much as its size.
Look at the next placements
Try Blocks8 and check how pieces are placed and cleared. Before using the first shape that fits, inspect all pieces currently visible. Ask whether your placement leaves room for a long or wide shape. Compact gaps are often more useful than scattered single cells, though the best choice depends on the game's rules.
Avoid clearing without a plan
A line clear is valuable when the new space supports another move. Compare the board after the clear, not just the immediate score. If rotation is unavailable, evaluate each piece exactly as shown. When a run ends, find the placement that split a useful area into awkward gaps and try a different choice next time.
